The following provides a brief summary of the Community Advisory Panel (CAP)
meetings in 2006.
January
The CAP reviewed the Helpline statistics for the year. There was also a
presentation about noise and odor.
February
The panel learned about some of the chemicals used or made at Dow Corning
and Cabot. Explanations were given in lay terms.
March
This month’s meeting was a joint meeting with the Sully CAP. The
presentation topic focused on operations in Barry docks and was presented by
Trevor Auld from ABP.
April
Scafftag’s Clive Cureton (also a panel member) showed what safety systems
are being used to ensure safety scaffolding and ladders. These systems are used
by companies in the Industrial Complex.
May
The CAP toured Zeon Chemicals site and learned about Zeon’s operations and
products.
June
In June, a second joint CAP meeting with Sully CAP took place. Phil Scott
from the HSE showed how companies are regulated via the COMAH regulations.
September
There was no formal CAP meeting in September. Instead several members
attended the Dow Corning open evening that month. They heard about the new
telephone notification system called Rapid Reach.
October
The October CAP meeting saw the Emergency Planning Unit outline the review
that had taken place on the emergency plan document. The CAP was able to
provide feedback and suggested a summary document be created.
November
In November the CAP heard an update on how the new COMAH regulations had
affected Cabot and Dow Corning. The Panel heard how the companies must develop
action plans to address improvement items highlighted by the Environment
Agency.
December
The panel members enjoyed their annual Christmas meal.
Monthly
Calls to the Helpline were reviewed each month and CAP members reported on
discussions they have had with other community members about the chemical
complex.
