Community Advisory Panel 2011 Annual Report
The following provides a brief summary of the Community Advisory Panel (CAP)
meetings in 2011.
February
In February the CAP heard about proposals for possible energy from waste
facility at Dow Corning. The meeting was co-presented with representatives from
the link company Waste Recycling Group (WRG). There was a good discussion on
the proposed project and the CAP members were generally very supportive of this
technology although the project was later withdrawn.
April
Fire safety at home is an important consideration for everyone. This month’s
presenter helped the CAP understand the importance of home fire safety through
some graphic images and videos.
June
Following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Zeon Chemicals, a Japanese
company, needed to quickly rework its supply chains to help supply its
customers. In June the CAP heard from the Barry Zeon site manager on how the
Barry Zeon site stepped up to the challenge and helped to keep the supply chain
going.
September
One of the Environment Agency inspectors for some of the companies in the
Barry Industrial Complex presented to the CAP in September. The inspector
talked about how the Agency goes about inspecting industrial companies and the
changes that were proposed within the Agency itself.
November
Following Dow Corning’s incident in October, the November CAP meeting was
devoted to discussing the incident. Presentations were made on Dow Corning’s
very high response capabilities and Dow Corning’s emergency response
preparedness.
December
The panel members attended the annual Christmas meal.
Helpline calls
Calls to the Helpline were reviewed and discussed at each meeting.
Changes to the CAP membership in 2011
Three new members were welcomed to the CAP in 2011. These new people
represent different areas of Barry and Sully
