Preserving our environment is a priority. In 2002, we leased a
165-acre farm to the Switzerland Co. Historical Society for the development of
a Living History/Farmstead Museum. The Historical Society plans to
install a rare hay press barn on the property.
And in 1996, we leased 216 acres to the Carroll Co. Board of Education for
the Four Mile Creek Outdoor Environmental Classroom. Eighty-five
organizations and more than 500 people volunteered 10,000 hours to complete the
project by 1998.
We are proud of our environmental performance, and we continue looking for
ways to improve. For example, we voluntarily:
-
Stopped land filling all materials containing copper
-
Reduced chloride discharged to the Ohio River by 31% since 1999
-
Reduced incinerable waste production by 11% since 1999
-
Reduced air, land and water emissions by more than 95% since 1989
-
Reduced hazardous air pollutants by more than 90% since 1988
