About Dow Corning Carrollton Site

Silicone technologies and applications are revolutionizing our present and shaping our future. The materials made at Dow Corning’s Carrollton, Kentucky site are critical—one of the first steps—in developing life-enhancing technology throughout the world.

Carrollton, Kentucky is one of Dow Corning’s manufacturing sites used for the production of siloxanes (basic silicone materials) which are used extensively by industries such as electronics, personal care, construction and energy.

Dow Corning Carrollton Historical PhotoThe Carrollton, Kentucky site is one of the largest silicone materials production facilities in the world. The site, located on 1,600 acres along the Ohio River in Carroll County, Kentucky produces silicone fluids, blends, emulsions and intermediate materials. The materials produced at the Carrollton Site are used in many of Dow Corning’s 7,000 products

In addition to manufacturing operations, the Carrollton site is also home to Dow Corning’s global dimethyl silicone process research facility. Known as SMI (Silicon and Methyl Intermediates), this team is committed to developing and improving the technology for manufacturing silicon and basic silicone intermediates worldwide.

Construction of the Carrollton Site began in 1965 on 1,200 acres which encompassed two farms and a drive-in movie theatre. During construction, the site offices were housed in the old drive-in theatre. Upon completion of construction in 1967, the site had 60 employees. Today, there are hundreds of employees operating the facility with a capacity that has grown significantly since 1967.
