The Dow Corning Foundation Donor Advised Funds
About the Donor Advised Funds

In 2010, the Dow Corning Foundation Board of Trustees established Donor
Advised Funds to focus our investment in regional and community projects within
the Great Lakes Bay
Region of Michigan. Through these funds, the Dow Corning Foundation
makes annual contributions to three local community foundations: the Bay Area Community
Foundation, the Midland Area Community Foundation and the Saginaw Community
Foundation.
The community foundations use these contributions to distribute grants to local
causes that align with the Dow Corning Foundation’s mission.
The Dow Corning Foundation Donor Advisory Committee
The Donor Advisory Committee is a group of employees representing
Dow Corning Corporation and Hemlock Semiconductor Group sites, cities and job areas
within the Great Lakes Bay Region. The committee meets quarterly to review
grant requests and direct the local foundations on how the Donor Advised Funds
should be awarded.
Grant amounts
The Dow Corning Donor Advisory Committee considers grant requests from
nonprofit organizations and educational institutions. Maximum grants are $5,000
for a single county or $15,000 for requests that benefit all three counties.
Grant criteria – grant eligibility
As with the Dow Corning Foundation, grant requests for the Donor
Advised Funds must meet the following criteria:
-
Projects must benefit Great Lakes Bay Region communities in which our
employees live and work.
-
Projects must align with one or more of the Dow Corning Foundation’s
three mission areas: science,
technology, engineering and math (STEM) education; community
vitality/quality of life; and innovative technologies designed to make
our world more sustainable. See examples.
-
The impact, measurability and sustainability of the project are considered
during the evaluation process; however, innovative pilot projects may be funded
as well.
