Community Advisory Panel 2001 Agenda Highlights


The Midland Community Advisory Panel welcomed 3 new members in 2001: Dr. Dan Sorenson, Bob Marks, and Molly Lien.

Dow Corning's Office of the CEO met with the Panel on two occasions to review Dow Corning's global presence, new markets and new products, Chapter 11, the economy, and workforce reduction initiatives.

The Panel was kept abreast of emission reduction targets and progress.

Details of a new 4-year collective bargaining agreement between the USWA 12934-01 and Dow Corning were shared with the Panel.

The Midland Site Manager presented "The State of The Plant" to Panel members with emphasis on employees, community, safety, health, environment, and profitability.

A representative of The Lone Tree Council met with the Panel and discussed their mission, objectives and engaged in constructive dialogue with Panel members about Dow Corning's environmental performance.

Panel members provided input and feedback to Dow Corning on www.dowcorning.com and the Responsible Care Annual Report.

Panel members and representatives from Dow Corning attended a presentation on Cabot Corporation and toured Cabot's Midland manufacturing facility.

Information on releases, spills, fires, and injuries were reviewed with the Panel on a regular basis.

Panel members surveyed to assess each member's views on the overall effectiveness of the Midland Community Advisory Panel. The Results were reviewed with the Panel and Midland Site management.

Panel members discuss the PBS television Special Report of the chemical industry.

The Midland Site storm water sewer system remediation project was reviewed with the Panel.

Panel members were introduced to Six Sigma and what it means to Dow Corning.

The need for and installation of emergency warning road signs around the site was reviewed with Panel members.
