  • The minutes of the meeting held on October 2, 2001 were accepted. (With the change to the Emergency Response Drill on May 7, 2002, previously stated at 2001.)
    Start-up/Announcements:
    • The CAP membership roster was updated and distributed to panel members.
    • Introduction of new panel member, Bob Marks. Bob is replacing Vic Finch. We look forward to his background knowledge as Fire Chief for Lincoln Township.
    • Dow Corning's benefit packages will be changing effective January 2002.
    • Discussed an Anthrax concern (that turned out to be metal shavings) within the Midland Site.
    • CABOT Corporation will join us at our meeting on March 5, 2002.

  • CABOT Corporation (quarterly update): Kevin Burley and Paul Fraser provided the panel with year-end performance results (their year ends Sept. 30, 2001). They discussed their "lean plant design" with 26 employees, working 12-hour shift rotations, and how that impacts the employees motivation. They provided highlights including their 2002 Outlook, Community Outreach and the Safety, Health & Environmental performance for their Midland facility.

  • PCB Remediation Effort: Rich Rausch gave a presentation of the Storm Water Sewer System Remediation Project and a timeline of events. Trace levels of PCB were detected in September of 2000. Dow Corning met with the MDEQ and developed an aggressive sampling and remediation plan. All of the remediation work was completed by September of 2001. In the interim, storm water effluent was treated to remove PCBs.

Meeting ended @ 4:45p.m.
Date of Next Meeting: Tuesday, December 4, 2001
