The minutes of the meeting held on May 1, 2001 were accepted.
Start-up/Announcements:
-
-
Reminder that our January meeting will take place on the 2nd Tuesday of the
month (January 8th, 2002).
-
Scott Seeburger discussed the new "Arts Midland" program. This will
replace the Dow Corning Christmas Card Contest. Dow Corning will not be
handling the administrative responsibility of the program, but will continue as
a Corporate Sponsor. A letter has been sent to teachers notifying them of the
change. In addition, there will be an increase in prize money. The program will
also include students in Isabella County.
-
Introduction of new panel member, Molly Lien. Molly is a junior at Midland
High School. Welcome Molly!
-
A memorial in honor of Vic Finch will be sent to the Midland Area Community
Foundation. Vic served on the panel for many years. He will be greatly
missed.
-
CABOT tour debrief: Overall the panel members enjoyed the tour of CABOT.
Below are a few key comments that were made:
-
-
26 employees/24 hours a day/running plants
-
very interesting
-
difficult processes being run
-
1 person overseeing 3 large Air Products tanks
-
Quality supplier for DC to be associated with
Action: Maureen will ask Kevin Burley (CABOT), what they are doing to be
more known within the Community.
-
CAP survey results: Maureen reviewed the results with the panel members.
Overall members are very pleased with the topics that we are covering and how
the meetings are being conducted. Several suggestions were made,
including:
-
-
T.V. communication, more visibility (more ways to broadcast at a low
cost)
-
Including an Environmentalist, brings a different perspective, but can be
dominating
-
Important that we find a new panel member with some of the same credentials
as Vic.
-
CRP: (Cost Reduction Program) Dow Corning has to reduce their
non-manufacturing costs. Several employee communication meetings were held at
the Midland Plant to discuss the Corporations plan to reduce this cost. This is
not a voluntary program. Employees will be notified in the U.S. by the end of
September. If a person wishes to put their name in for consideration (volunteer
to retire), they will be considered, but it is not a guarantee that they will
be chosen. Retirement packages and separation packages are posted on the Dow
Corning Intranet.
-
Agenda planning: Maureen shared several upcoming topics for the remainder
of 2001 and into 2002. Stephanie Burns will be our guest speaker on October
2nd. If you have a specific meeting topic that you'd like to cover at a future
meeting, please contact Maureen.
Meeting ended @ 5:00p.m.
Date of Next Meeting: Tuesday, October 2, 2001
