Minutes of Meeting -- Tuesday 6th of January

Members Present:

Start-up/Announcements: (Maureen)

  • December meeting minutes were approved. Maureen provided the minutes as a follow up to the joint CAP meeting with Dow Chemical & Dow Corning.
  • Lin Dorman suggested that the panel members send a letter to Gary Anderson thanking him for his contributions and time with Dow Corning in his role as CEO. (Maureen)
  • Mike Snyder commented on the special television segment that aired on 60 minutes regarding the security of chemical plants across the United States. He also explained what safety measures we have in place to ensure the safety and security of employees within the Midland Site.
  • Maureen asked panel members for their feedback on the December joint CAP meeting. Comments were overall very positive. Panel members would like to continue to meet annually with Dow Chemical to discuss current issues involving their respective Sites and how it impacts our community.

1. Review of 2003 Midland Site Contributions (Brian Money)

Brian reviewed the 2003 contributions and donations. He briefly discussed the purpose of the Midland Site team and their focus on education, safety, & the environment. He reviewed the scholarships for Mathematics, Science and Building Trades for the Midland County High Schools, and highlighted some of the other key activities that they support. The committee welcomes ideas on how they can continue to strengthen our community. Please provide any comments or feedback to Brenda Sauve.

2. Review of the 1460th Trans. Co. dinner at Midland Site (Brenda Sauve)

Brenda updated the panel members about the dinner that was held at the Midland Site in honor of the 1460th Transportation Co. families. The dinner was for family members of the guard who are currently serving overseas. The evening events included fun activities including personal videos, face painting, and a hands-on chemistry demonstration.

3. Environmental Health & Safety Updates: (Mike Snyder)

Mike reviewed the Midland Site Vision and emphasized that safety is a core value. He also reviewed the MiOSHA Inspections that took place in Q4 of 2003.

Dow Corning Midland Site also received the Clean Corporate Citizen award.
