1) Follow-up to Silicone injection story on CBS: (Mary Lou Benecke)
Mary Lou showed the news clip that CBS aired on November 29, 2004. The news
story was about two women with claims against Dow Corning for injuries
allegedly resulting from silicone fluid injections they received many years
ago. The assumption was made that the silicone fluid injected into them was
manufactured and sold by Dow Corning.
Mary Lou explained that no part of the story’s premise was true or even
arguable. Dow Corning was never contacted to comment on the story. Sue
McDonnell, Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary, Dow Corning
Corporation sent a follow up letter to Mr. Andrew Hayward, President, CBS
News. In this letter Ms. McDonnell expresses how ”extremely disappointed to
see a national media story so irresponsibly misrepresenting our Plan with
utter disregard for the facts communicated to your staff members -- not only
by Dow Corning representatives but also by lawyers representing the interests
of tort claimants as a group.”
2) Balance & Consequences for the Midland Site: (Mike Snyder)
Mike reviewed what Safety Brilliance is all about and how Dow Corning’s EHS
Expectation Management System is implementing the BOC (Balance of
Consequences). Dow Corning Midland Site will implement this plan in 2005.
Employees take personal responsibility for their safety. Safety is an integral
part of everything we do!
