Site Introduction
Dow Corning (Zhangjiagang) Co, Ltd, is an integrated world-class
manufacturing site that meets the rapidly-growing needs of businesses in China
and other parts of Asia for silicon-based materials. Zhangjiagang is an
integral part of Dow Corning’s network of more than 40 manufacturing sites
worldwide. It is the company’s third manufacturing site for the production of
siloxanes (basic silicone materials) which are used extensively by industries
such as electronics, personal care, construction and energy.
The integrated site in Zhangjiagang comprises the Dow Corning siloxanes
plant, Dow Corning silicone finishing plants and a fumed silica plant with our
joint venture partner WACKER Chemie AG. Other facilities on the site are owned
and operated separately by WACKER. The total investment for the joint venture
projects is estimated to exceed 900 million U.S. dollars in the coming years.
It is expected that full operational capacity will be phased in by the end of
2010.
Location
The site is situated on 250 acres of the Zhangjiagang City Free
Trade Zone industrial park in Jiangsu Province, China, which is a rapidly
growing region approximately 2 hours from Shanghai. Its location on the Yangtze
River provides excellent waterfront access for the export and import of
materials and good quality of life for employees.

Supporting the Community
The Zhangjiagang site is working to establish relationships with the community
close to the facility with the goal of being viewed as a trusted member of the
local area.
This is in line with Dow Corning’s commitment to the principles of
Responsible Care® which we practice in all parts of the world.
Open
Doors
In the spirit of developing mutual understanding, employees’ families
and representatives of neighboring companies have been given an opportunity to
visit the site and to hear about our progress and performance on environment,
safety and health performance. We will continue to open our door to interested
neighbors, to answer their questions and listen to their comments about our
operations.
Support for Education
We also want to be a part of the Zhangjiagang community through
involvement in activities that contribute to the well being of the local area.
We consider children to be the future of our society and will look for
opportunities to support education initiatives that help them fulfill their
potential through science, math and technology.
