Innovation at Dow Corning Innovation is the lifeblood of Dow Corning. We have been inventing products, creating markets and innovating new ways to serve customer needs since we pioneered the silicone industry in 1943.

Formed as one of the first joint ventures created in the U.S., Dow Corning was founded by the Dow Chemical Company and Corning Incorporated to develop a new branch of science and explore the potential of the silicon atom. This began a journey that has led Dow Corning all over the world, into many geographies and industries.

Looking back at Dow Corning's history, it is clear that innovation is basic to who we are. You could say it is in our DNA. Dow Corning holds more than 4400 global patents in silicon technology and devotes approximately 5 percent of sales to ongoing research, development and new business incubation.

We do not define innovation just in terms of creativity or R&D spending. Dow Corning's processes, though they strive for maximum efficiency, are also developed to encourage invention and innovation - through new business models or processes to how we think about how we can help our customers.
