Design Freedom – With Safe Window Systems
Modern architecture embraces glass for its aesthetics, energy efficiency and
ability to be recycled. Thanks to Dow Corning, safety is being given equal
consideration.
Flying glass shards from shattered windows caused by hurricanes, earthquakes
or explosions have posed a serious hazard for building occupants as well as
those outside the building. Dow Corning silicones are improving the structural
safety and integrity of window systems – helping to minimize that danger.
More architects, builders and construction engineers are beginning to
specify impact-resistant window systems, which use silicones for a number of
applications.
Protective laminates are used to help prevent dangerous glass shattering. In
addition, silicones are used to anchor these glass laminates into its frame,
preventing the panes from blowing out. The result is dramatically increased
protection for those inside and outside the building.
