Here Comes the Sun
While fossil fuels and petroleum reserves decrease, the sun shines through
as the world’s most abundant and sustainable energy source.
Working with the industry’s top producers, government agencies and leading
research universities, Dow Corning is developing solutions to help with the
conversion of sunlight. Our technology helps convert sunlight into energy –
transforming a natural resource into a renewable solution.
Light from the sun is transformed by solar panels into energy that can power
homes, stadium scoreboards and manufacturing facilities. For several years, the
primary obstacle to the growth of the solar industry has been the constrained
availability of silicon. Silicon is the key raw material used in the production
of solar cells, which are used in solar panels. In 2006, Dow Corning launched a
product that will provide a new supply option and partially alleviate the
growth constraints of the industry.
“I believe that we have a great opportunity to match Dow Corning’s
technology with our commitment to sustainability,” said Marie Eckstein, Vice
President, General Manager of Advanced Technologies and Ventures. “As we
support the advancement of solar energy, we are also helping to reduce the
world’s
consumption of fossil fuels.”
The Dow Corning Solar Solutions Group provides materials and services for
the entire photovoltaic supply chain, from sand to sun™ – from the basic
building blocks of silicon used to manufacture wafers used in solar panels…to
solar module frame assembly and other sealing and potting materials. We’re
making a difference and helping photovoltaic producers fulfill the promises of
solar energy.
