New Facility Enables Accelerated Research Breakthroughs
The Centre for Advanced Photonics and Electronics (CAPE), a consortium
between Dow Corning and three other high-tech companies, has a new home – a
recently completed research facility located at England’s University of
Cambridge. The facility is equipped for the development of emerging
technologies and will offer the focus necessary to accelerate the
time-to-market for key research breakthroughs in solar energy.
“The opening of this facility represents an important milestone for the CAPE
consortium. By collaborating together in a strategic, pre-competitive
environment, CAPE partners will gain access to research results that would be
virtually impossible for any one of us to fund or accomplish alone,” said Gregg
Zank, vice president, chief technology officer of Dow Corning. “Conducting
research and development collaboratively is an example of how we have to work
differently to proactively provide the solutions to our customers’ needs today
and in the future.”
As a global leader in science and technology, Dow Corning brings unique
market insights and technical experiences to this industry. Aligning with and
supporting centers of R&D excellence, such as the University of Cambridge,
Dow Corning can leverage the expertise and resources of both industry and
academia, accelerating key research breakthroughs and bringing innovative
solutions that will benefit society.
The new CAPE facility comprises more than 4,800 square meters of research
and laboratory space, and includes a state-of-the-art clean room equipped with
dedicated process, assembly, test and measurement tools.
