Sealing Benefits and Processing Methods

Benefits:

  • May reduce seal costs through automation
  • Specific products suitable for oil, coolant, and environmental sealing
  • Provides adhesive seal for permanently assembled components
  • Provides proper fit to nearly every contour through wet assembly
  • Adheres to variety of metal and plastic substrates
  • Easy-to-process one- and two-part systems
  • Maintains elastomer properties from -40 to 150°C and above
  • Oxime-free products

Process:

In situ robotic dispensing of adhesive seals uses specialty one- and two-part silicone adhesive/sealants. Robot follows contour of component and applies precisely metered bead directly onto one surface. Unit is assembled and retained with fasteners while adhesive/sealant is in uncured stage. After short cure at high or room temperature (depending on product type), seal is ready for use.

Adhesive Sealing Process and Layout for a Production Line

Choosing a one- or two-part system:

  • One-part systems: room-temperature-curing adhesive/sealants generally requiring 24 hours or longer to cure
  • Two-part systems: generally used for lighting and other assembly processes that require short cure time
