Flexible Diaphragms


Gain increased diaphragm reliability for better fuel handling and emissions control

Silastic® brand silicone and fluorosilicone elastomers from Dow Corning can help you develop durable fuel- and emission-system diaphragms. Molded diaphragms with Silastic elastomers can provide reliable long-term retention of mechanical strength, shape, flexibility and resistance to fuels, oils and solvents exhaust byproducts. These elastomers:

Flexible silicone rubber diaphragms
  • Deliver the same level of flexibility in extreme heat and extreme cold.
  • Withstand continuous flexing without stress cracking.
  • Resist swelling, even with prolonged immersion in gasoline or diesel fuel.

Fluorosilicone elastomers withstand tough conditions

  • Resist fuels, oils and solvents that can degrade many organic elastomers.
  • Resist compression set and flex fatigue when exposed to harsh fluids and extreme temperatures.
  • Maintain tear and tensile strength in hostile environments.
  • Maintain mechanical properties over a wide temperature range from -40 to 200°C
    (-40 to 392°F).
  • Can be custom compounded to meet requirements for heat aging, fuel resistance and swelling characteristics.

Silastic silicone elastomers used in diaphragms for exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves withstand exposure to unburned fuel. Fluorosilicone elastomers (PDF) are excellent choices for anti-drainback valves (ADBV) and transducer applications where resistance to fuels and flex fatigue is critical.
