Protect the feet
|
|
DEFLEXION™ impact protection textiles could be considered
for incorporation into footwear for protection of the sole, the heel, or
the top of the foot. This protection proves to be imperative to athletes whose
sport involves impact to the feet. Skateboarders suffer a high amount of
foot-related injuries every year, and through DEFLEXION™ impact absorbing
technology, repeat stresses on the foot are diffused and the chance of injury
is drastically reduced.

Case study: Sole Technology
|
|
Sole Technology is a globally recognized leader in authentic
action sports footwear and apparel that is available in more than 70 countries.
The company's R&D arm, Sole Technology Institute (STI) Lab, is the world's
first and only skateboarding-focused biomechanics research organization that
tests and invents new technologies in order to develop the highest performing
action sports footwear in the world.
Heel bruises are a chronic problem for skateboarders. They are painful and
knock the rider out of commission while taking a long time to heal.
Dow Corning was tapped to provide its innovative DEFLEXION™ impact absorbing
material for use in a skateboarding shoe. By adding DEFLEXION™ high performance
material, extra protection is provided to the heel of the foot.
The result is a heel system called the System G2 Platinum, which absorbs 28%
more impact energy than traditional EVA cupsole skate shoes and can be 33%
thinner. The user gets improved skateboard feel and comfort without having to
sacrifice heel bruise protection.
