Silicone + solids
Silicone compounds – silicone fluid or gum + silica
Silicone compounds are used to formulate fast-, long-acting antifoams; other
grease-like silicone compounds are used in industrial applications for their
sealing, dielectric, non-metal-to-metal lubricating, and release
properties.
Silicone thermoplastic blends – silicone gum + plastic carrier
resin
Pelletized microdispersions of silicone polymers in plastic carrier resins
are used in the molding and extrusion of thermoplastics. The pellets improve
polymer flow and mold filling, act as internal release agents, and improve the
surface characteristics of finished plastic parts.
Silicone elastomeric (E) powders – silicone rubber particles cured in
an emulsion matrix
Silicone E-powders are supplied as pre-cured, free-flowing, spherical
silicone rubber particles or as gels (irregular elastomeric particles swollen
with silicone fluid during cure). E-powders are used as aesthetic-enhancing
flow-modifiers in personal care formulations, textile treatments, coatings, and
polishes. They are also used as modifiers for thermoset plastics.
Silicones and microencapsulation delivery systems
Silicone or non-silicone ingredients encased in microcapsules and suspended
in a formulation
Used in cosmetics, healthcare, and personal care formulations,
microencapsulation technology enables silicones and non-silicones to be
combined in unique and otherwise impossible ways.
