Keeping the power flowing to 500,000 people in one Philippine
community
NorthWind Power Development Corporation, a private wind power project in the
Philippines, provides almost 40 percent of the area’s electricity. When
pollution-induced flashovers and outages were occurring almost daily, NorthWind
needed to find a solution. The outages were not only extremely disruptive to
the community of 500,000, but they also caused NorthWind to lose income and
increase costs for maintenance and repairs.
By installing silicone high voltage insulator coating for transmission line
insulators, NorthWind was able to reduce overall downtime by more than half.
More importantly, NorthWind should continue to reap the value of using a
silicone coating over the long term. Unlike other protection methods that
require reapplication every 18-36 months, the silicone product lasts 10 years
or more without recoating – saving many times its original cost over the life
of the product.
