Dow Corning ® Connector Sealant Pads are supplied in two basic product types,
GT-4201 and GT-6201. The primary difference is that the GT-6201 pads have a
firmer gel in the middle layer of the 3-layer laminate structure to permit
easier handling in automated processes. The GT-4201 pads with a softer gel in
the middle enhance the conformability of the pads to various shapes and
topographies, allowing better sealing capabilities. It also results in lower
insertion forces for the connector pins.
In addition to the basic product types of GT-4201 and GT-6201, Dow Corning
also offers sealant pads of GT-1020, a one side rubber backing sealant pad as
well as GT-1030, a one side open cell foam backing connector sealant pad.
Applications of GT-1020 pad material include LED marker lights and any other
applications requiring a rubber, non-tacky backing material. Applications of
GT-1030 pad material include both connector- to- connector, connector – to –
module sealing and sealing for clam-shell flex-wiring connectors. Connector
pins or wires are simply poked through the face seal’s open cell backing and
when the connector halves are mated, gel is compressed with very low
compression force. When compression is removed, the gel withdraws from the
foam, leaving a non-tacky surface. All of these forms are also available in a
standard form (GT-10x0 series) or with enhanced flame resistance and UV
stability (GT-16x0 series). A special backing of a Teflon material is
available for specific applications requiring additional abrasion resistance
and mechanical strength.
