Dow Corning participates in Mumbai Marathon Dream Run; supports the cause of education for the underprivileged
Dow Corning, a global
leader in silicones, participated in
the Dream Run, part of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2011 on 16th
January - nearly forty employees of Dow Corning in India took part in the
Dream Run in order to contribute funding to ATMA, a non-governmental organization (NGO)
that works in the field of education for the underprivileged.
Speaking on this event, Jean Paul Mollie,
Dow Corning’s president for Middle East, South Asia and Africa said,
“Dow Corning believes in the concept of education for all, regardless of
economic background. Supporting ATMA means that we can make a difference to the
people who will benefit from this the most.”
Mary Ellen Matsui, resource manager with ATMA commented “We thank all our
supporters, including Dow Corning, who have so generously contributed
their time and money to this cause. Every child has a right to education, and
it is this right that we aim to provide.”
Dow Corning is also active in the villages around their manufacturing
facility near Pune, partnering with the villagers to construct anganwadis (day
care centers) that provide underprivileged children with shelter, education,
nutrition and healthcare. The company has also piloted a solar project at
Karde village, which provides solar electricity to the local anganwadi and
school. In addition, a group of ten
volunteers from Dow Corning were in Bangalore recently for a month,
working with local social entrepreneurs on base of the pyramid solutions.
At Dow Corning, we support the principle of sustainability through our
business strategies, processes, products and solutions. As a global corporate
value, sustainability involves focusing on and creating balance among its three
main pillars: economic prosperity, environmental quality and social equity.
