Michigan DNRE Recognizes Dow Corning Midland Site with Neighborhood Environmental Partners Award
Dow Corning’s Midland Site was recently recognized by the Michigan
Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE), receiving the
Neighborhood Environmental Partners (NEP) Program Award for its commitment to
community based environmental projects. The award recognizes businesses and
their neighbors for working together to improve environmental awareness in
their community.
The Midland Site was recognized for working with local police and fire
responders on specialized emergency response training, supporting local
recycling programs and enhancing environmental education in area public
schools.
“Working with these community agencies has helped Dow Corning further
enhance the sustainability of our community, while providing our employees with
a rewarding opportunity to feel like they've made a difference,” said Jim
Smith, Dow Corning’s Midland site manager. “This award is validation that
the state and region appreciate these efforts, and all of our employees should
be proud of their contributions to making this community cleaner and
stronger.”
Dow Corning’s efforts included projects with the Arnold Center, Inc., Meijer
stores, Red Cross of Midland/Gladwin, Midland Public Schools, Midland Emergency
Medical Service, Midland City Police and Fire, and Midland Volunteers for
Recycling.
