Dow Corning Wiesbaden awarded Best Employer in Germany

Global marketplace and emphasis on innovation increasing importance of attracting and retaining top talent

Dow Corning GmbH was recognized as one of Germany’s 100 best places to work for the second time by the Great Place to Work® Institute and Capital, a leading German business magazine. In the survey, 94 percent of Dow Corning employees confirmed that ‘this is a very good place to work’. The company ranked 33 in the 2008 list of Germany’s top 100 best places to work, among 252 participants.

“Our results from the employee survey were higher in almost all aspects compared to 2006. It’s rewarding to see that Dow Corning employees enjoy working here,” said Elisabeth Ganss, general manager of Dow Corning GmbH.

Attracting and retaining skilled employees has become increasingly important in Europe, as companies emphasize innovation while competing in a global marketplace. Companies must not only offer interesting jobs, competitive compensation and career development opportunities, they must also be effective in providing their employees with incentives allowing them to balance their career and work life with their personal life.

“It’s critical to recruit new talent and build leaders who innovate and energize your business for a sustainable future,” said Ganss.

Dow Corning proactively measures employee satisfaction.  For example, in 2006 the Wiesbaden facility engaged in an external audit, which identified six potential improvement goals focused on working time, work organization, personnel development, family service, leadership competency, and information & communication.  Dow Corning implemented several changes based on the employee feedback.

As a result, Wiesbaden employees reported notable increases in some of the previously identified areas for improvement.  The most significant increases were gained for: ‘employees receive help in health matters’ (+13 points) and ‘employees are encouraged to find a good balance between work life and private life’ (+19 points). To the summarizing question: ‘All in all I can say that this is a very good place to work,’ 94% of the participating employees gave a positive response (versus 91% in 2006).

Dow Corning Corporation has received ‘Best employer’ awards in several countries.  In the United States, Dow Corning was named to Fortune magazine’s list of Best Companies to Work for and Working Mother magazine’s Best Companies in 2007.  Dow Corning has also received the Best Employer Award in Belgium and a similar award in Brazil.
