Hemlock Semiconductor Corporation, Dow Corning Healthcare Industries Materials Site (HIMS), Michigan Technological University (MTU) and Saginaw County schools are teaming up to sponsor a scholarship program that covers tuition, boarding and transportation required to attend a Summer Youth Program (SYP) at MTU’s Houghton, MI campus.

The scholarship is targeted toward Saginaw County high school students who have expressed interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education or have achieved scholastic success in these areas. Upon successful completion of the Summer Youth Program, students will be considered for Dow Corning summer employment or high school co-op positions.

“Dow Corning understands the importance of education and supports emphasizing science, technology, engineering, and math in our schools,” said Bill Huss, Dow Corning Manufacturing, Engineering and Global Operations manager and the Dow Corning, Hemlock Semiconductor Group Saginaw County SYP Scholarship Program Leader. “Through these programs, we can positively impact our young people and their futures through education.”

The SYP is a week-long program at MTU, providing high school students the opportunity to explore engineering careers in areas such as mechanical, computer, environmental, electrical, and biomedical. As part of the program, students participate in engineering sessions, group projects and have an opportunity to interact with industry role models and a diverse group of peers from around the world.
