Dow Corning inaugurates 2012 Science Day program alongside the Dow Corning Cup Youth Science and Technology Competition of Zhangjiagang City
Zhangjiagang, China – The widely popular annual “Fascinating Silicone
in Life” – Dow Corning Science Day Program today started its 2012 journey at
the Zhangjiagang Youth Social Practice Base. Playing an integral part at the
Dow Corning Cup Youth Science and Technology Competition of Zhangjiagang City,
the program is expected to welcome around 800 primary and middle school
students aged 9 to 12 from the city on October 18-19, 2012.
“Dow Corning is committed to inspiring the young generations about the power
of science and technology. Our ‘Fascinating Silicone in Life’ Science Day
program has provided a great platform for students in Zhangjiagang to conduct
hands-on experiments and explore the wonder of science and technology,” said
Brian Craig, the newly appointed Dow Corning Zhangjiagang Site Managing
Director. “This year we worked together with Zhangjiagang Youth Social Practice
Base to integrate our Science Day program into the city’s annual Youth Science
and Technology Competition so that more students in the region may participate
and enjoy the benefit. I’d like to extend my gratitude to thank the Base, the
Zhangjiang Education Bureau and Zhangjiagang Science Committee for their
support throughout.”
Launched in 2008 in Shanghai, the “Fascinating Silicone in Life” – Dow
Corning Science Day Program plays an important role in Dow Corning’s global CSR
initiatives. To date, more than 3,500 students across China have been provided
the opportunity to experience a dozen of uniquely developed silicone
experiments. This year’s program is to take place in Zhangjiagang (Jiangsu),
Songjiang (Shanghai) and Zhangjiang (Shanghai), and more than 1,400 students
are expected to attend the three events under the guidance of Dow Corning
employee volunteers.
“Dow Corning Zhangjiagang site employees have always been highly engaged in
our local community. This time is no exception,” added Craig. “I’m proud of our
employees’ enthusiasm. They are making a positive impact visibly demonstrating
Dow Corning’s pledge to contribute to communities we operate.” So far, more
than 550 Dow Corning China employees have provided key support to ensure the
successful operation of the “Fascinating Silicone in Life” Dow Corning Science
Day program since it was launched in 2008.
Three experiments have been specially designed for this year’s Zhangjiagang
stop, which are “Silicone Refrigerator Magnet”, “Chill Cool Lotion” and “Solar
car Assembly”. All these experiments aim to demonstrate the amazing and
diversified attributes of silicone and how silicone innovations help to improve
virtually all aspects of people’s qualities of life.
