Dow Corning commended for ‘outstanding contribution’ to UK economy
Dow Corning’s Barry site was selected
as Company of the Year 2010 by the UK chemical industry’s leading trade and
employers association (Chemical Industries Association, CIA) because
of its commitment to sustainable development and growth of the business and
excellence in safety and improved efficiencies. The fact that the Barry
site is a substantial exporter out of the UK and the EU was another factor that
helped the site achieve the Company of the Year recognition.
“Last year was a remarkable year for the Barry site in many ways,” commented
David Ott, Dow Corning's Barry site manager. “we finished the year
operating at full production rates and achieved outstanding performance in
employee health, safety and environmental impact. Every employee here has
contributed in some way to the many positive programmes that led to us getting
the award, and everyone has good reason to be proud of what has been
accomplished.”
Steven Elliott, Chief Executive of the CIA, added: “Company of the Year is
our ultimate award – acknowledging the most outstanding member company of the
year – demonstrating growth of its business and a sustained contribution to the
UK economy over the last 12 months.
"This year's quality of entries reflects the outstanding contribution
made by the chemical industry to a better quality of life for us all despite
very tough times. The CIA awards are about recognizing that excellence. This
offers tremendous encouragement and visibility to an industry which is largely
unsung, all of the entrants should be proud of their success."
