Dow Corning expert to present “Fluorosilicone Elastomers – Innovations for Automotive Challenges” at Smithers Rapra conference
MIDLAND, MICHIGAN, USA: Hans Peter Wolf, Ph. D., of Dow Corning GMbH
will present “Fluorosilicone Elastomers – Innovations for Automotive
Challenges” at the Smithers Rapra Silicone Elastomers Americas 2012
Conference, Sept. 19-21 at the Hyatt Regency Cincinnati in Cincinnati,
Ohio, USA.
Wolf’s presentation, which will take place at 11 a.m. Sept. 19, will show
the various ways fluorosilicone elastomers can provide the automotive industry
with answers to new challenges and contribute to sustainable innovation. In
addition to typical automotive applications for fluorosilicone elastomers, Wolf
will discuss their usefulness for designing emission-reduction technologies.
Developments for biodiesel fuels, turbocharger hose (TCH) performance and
exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems will be presented demonstrating
progress that has been made in terms of fluid and temperature resistance in
combination with optimized processing behavior.
“Designing emission-reduction technologies requires new materials,” Wolf
said. This includes materials such as Dow Corning’s new range of
Silastic® brand fluoro liquid silicone rubber (F-LSR), which
combines the broad temperature range and excellent fluid resistance of
traditional fluorosilicone rubber compounds with the productivity advantages of
liquid injection molding technologies.
“The increasing demand for products, processes and technologies that meet
environmental and societal needs will play a key role in current and future
innovation activities. Meeting these needs will require not only new products
and material performance, but also an intimate understanding of the market,”
Wolf said.
Wolf, who holds a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from the University of
Frankfurt, has experience in research and technical service and development for
the automotive market. He has served as Dow Corning’s global research and
development manager for silicone rubber since 2008.
One company with many automotive solutions, Dow Corning provides an array of
innovative technologies for automotive applications. Dow Corning offers a range
of
Silastic®
silicone and fluorosilicone engineered elastomers and customized choices to
help customers find exact solutions to complex automotive challenges, plus
