Dow Corning Korea Hosts "Green Energy Club Contest Awards"
Top 8 environment-oriented clubs from elementary, middle, and high
schools recognized at Jincheon
Voluntary hands-on experiences boost young people's interest in
environment and science
Dow Corning Korea Ltd (dowcorning.com), a global leader
in silicone, silicon-based technology and innovation, announced that it hosted
the "2014 Green Energy Contest Awards", organized by the Korean
Environmental Education Association, at the company's plant in Jincheon,
Chungcheongbukdo of Korea.
A total of eight clubs won prizes, including 1 Grand prize and 2 Gold/Silver
each and 3 Bronze prizes with a total value of KRW 4 million. The ‘Lily
volunteer club' from Cheongju girl's high school took home the Grand prize.
Celebrating its fifth anniversary this year, the ‘Green Energy Club Contest
Awards' is an initiative by Dow Corning Korea to support science education
and good environmental practices. It provides the top environment-oriented
school clubs from elementary, middle, and high schools in the Chungcheongbukdo
area with comprehensive environment and science education opportunities as well
as support for their creative club activities.
For the contest, the clubs undertook tasks such as reducing leftover food,
holding water quality and ecology exploration, essay-writing contest focusing
on energy conservation, and environment-related reading discussion, growing a
vegetable garden in school, and reducing carbon emissions in daily life while
running an online community and their own booth on the ceremony date. The
winners were selected based on the combined scores from online community
operations, interim/final reports, presentation on the ceremony date, and
evaluation by employees at Dow Corning's manufacturing site at
"Through our involvement with the ‘Green Energy Club Contest' we are
trying to play a part in encouraging young people to take an interest in
environment, and also enhance their knowledge of science. Both of these are
important for the future growth of Korea and a building a sustainable
future," said MG Moon, President and Representative Director of
Dow Corning Korea Ltd.
