The November 2012 issue of Power Electronics Technology magazine features a Dow Corning cover photo and invitedarticle by Mark Loboda, Chief Scientist, Power Electronics. Entitled “Design Considerations for SiC-based Power Electronics,” Mark explains how SiC properties are recognized as being advan­tageous for the fabrication of power devices. Geared to the designers and engineers of power electronics, the article also explains that, although substrate costs and defect densities are decreasing, SiC is not yet as mature and consistent as silicon. However, it was quickly pointed out that significant progress is underway to more fully understand the cause-and-effect relationships between the variations and defects in SiC substrates and devices.
