Dow Corning CEO Supports U.S. Expansion of alternative energy manufacturing tax credits
Dow Corning chairman, president and CEO Dr. Stephanie A. Burns
commended today’s proposal by the White House to provide another $5 billion in
tax credits for manufacturers of wind, solar, and other renewable
energy-related products through the Advanced Energy Manufacturing Tax
Credit (Section 48C).
“This would be a great step to encourage companies that are willing to
invest and create jobs now,” said Burns. “President Obama’s administration
has demonstrated exceptional foresight and leadership. I encourage congress to
act swiftly and decisively on this legislation. The United States has the
opportunity to build a vibrant alternative energy industry while creating jobs
and economic growth, strengthening our energy security and achieving our
environmental goals.”
The White House stated that the original $2.3 billion program was
over-subscribed, and that the additional money could go to applicants
turned down when the money ran out.
Dow Corning’s silicon-based materials are used in solar cell manufacturing, solar module assembly and
installation. In the past five years, Dow Corning and its joint
ventures, the Hemlock
Semiconductor Group, have announced investments of more
than $5 billion to research and develop as well as to expand production of
materials critical to the solar industry.
