Dow Corning Corporation chemist Sung-Hsuen Chao will present “Influence of
Kraft Black Liquor Components on the Performance of Silicone Foam Control
Agents” at the TAPPI: 2007 Engineering, Pulping, and Environmental Conference
this October in Jacksonville, Florida, USA.
Chao’s presentation – based on a technical paper she wrote with Laurent
Vermeire and Torolf Laxen – is an overview of their research project Design of
Experiments (DOE) methodology using black liquor model systems, which
demonstrates the influence of black liquor components on the performance of
silicone foam control agents.
“This study is part of a larger research project that uses
laboratory-testing methods to characterize and understand the relationship
between the foaming characteristics of black liquor and the performance of foam
control agents,” Chao said. “The ultimate purpose is to develop tools to
predict the foaming characteristics of black liquors from various geographic
areas based on simple analysis and to use the information to select the most
suitable foam control agent for a specific system.”
This paper is the second in a series of three discussing effective selection
of foam control agents. In addition to materials, the company provides
supportive services tailored to the specific business requirements of the
global pulp and paper industry.
The conference will take place October 21-24, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency
Jacksonville Riverfront. This event provides paper industry professionals
practical operating insights and an opportunity to network with industry peers
in technical sessions, tutorials, round tables, new technology sessions, and
workshops. For more information, visit www.tappi.org.
