MIDLAND, MICHIGAN, USA: Dow Corning Corporation, an innovative leader in fluorosilicone technology for coatings and other industries, is participating in the American Coatings Conference this June. Steven R. Block of Dow Corning’s Fluorine Business Program will present Novel Chemistry Improves Surface Performance.

The presentation, based on work by Dow Corning and Daikin Industries, Ltd., will focus on recent developments that may offer exciting opportunities for coatings, specifically by taking advantage of synergistic effects between silicone and fluorine chemistries. Block will note that silicone-cure fluoro-polymer resins can broaden the coatings application range by providing improved surface performance in construction, chemical processing, automotive, electronics, and other uses. The new technology will be shown to enhance the durability, anti-staining, low dirt-pickup, chemical resistance, ease of cleaning, and adhesion properties of the coatings.

“This advanced technology also delivers some significant processing advantages,” says Block. “These resins cure quickly at low temperatures to reduce cost and improve productivity. They are readily used in delivery systems for coatings with high-solids content or solvents that comply with strict environmental regulations. The end performance yields higher hardness and better flexibility than traditional high-performance coatings.”

Novel Chemistry Improves Surface Performance is from a report jointly developed by contributors from Dow Corning and Daikin Industries. Block will present findings from the companies’ alliance, researching high-value fluorosilicone coatings with sustainable advantages over other technologies.

The American Coatings Conference will take place in conjunction with the American Coatings Show. The conference will boast more than 70 high-level technical presentations and 40 technical posters, from June 2-4, 2008, at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. Block’s presentation will be at 2:30 p.m., June 3, during the Dirt Pickup and Easy-to-Clean Coatings session.
