Dow Corning announces Zank's appointment to presidential council

MIDLAND, MI — Dow Corning Corp’s director of New Ventures Research and Development,  Gregg Zank, Ph.D., was recently appointed to the Nanotechnology Technical Advisory Group (TAG) of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST).

PCAST was formed in September of 2001 to establish a channel for the Executive Office of the President to receive advice from the private sector and academia on technology, scientific research priorities, and science and math education.  The Nanotechnology TAG joins other cutting edge technology disciplines being represented on the task force: such as photonics, energy, and biotechnology, among others, and will play a key role in advising the President on issues related to the National Nanotechnology Initiative.

“Gregg is a perfect member for this advisory group,” Jean-Marc Gilson, Dow Corning’s Vice President and General Director of New Ventures business said.  “His innovation and technology leadership will add a great deal of value and benefit to the effort.”

Zank has more than 18 years of industrial experience and a strong track record of scientific excellence.    He has generated close ties between Dow Corning’s New Ventures Science and Technology activities and the needs of leading edge customers like DARPA and AFOSR.  Zank has also managed global Research and Development groups with projects spanning three geographical areas (Asia, EU and US) from both a U.S. and Japan base.   He has published more than 30 articles in referred journals, 6 book chapters, 50 presentations at technical meetings, and 30 U.S. issued patents.  Zank is a member of the American Chemical Society ACS, American Academy for the Advancement of Science, reviewer of the National Science Foundation (NSF), Petroleum Research Fund, Grants and numerous ACS journals, as well as a corporate representative for Dow Corning at the Industrial Research Institute.  He is also a frequent invitee at National Research Council and NSF workshops as well as government lab and academic institutions oversight committees.  Zank completed the Kellogg School of Management Executive Development Program at Northwestern University and earned a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana and a B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin at Superior.
