Maximize Impact Resistance

Although polycarbonate has excellent impact resistance in ambient conditions, at very low temperatures it can become brittle, leading to cracking, crazing and breakage. Impact modifiers increase the flexibility and impact strength of PC to meet physical property requirements of rigid parts subjected to temperature extremes. However, some impact modifiers-including small silicone elastomer powders-are opaque and can affect the clarity of PC. They can also reduce the flowability of the resin during processing.

Dow Corning's new siloxane fluid additive technology solves these problems. It leverages the ability of silicone to remain flexible at very low temperatures-down to -20°C. When dispersed within PC resin during polymerization, our reactive silicone fluid absorbs or dissipates the energy of impact to relieve stress that can cause cracking, crazing and breakage.

Unlike competitive materials, Dow Corning's siloxane fluid maintains the clarity of the PC resin.
