Optimize Light Diffusion

LED display lighting and general lighting components need diffusing solutions to distribute light evenly, avoid hot spots and reduce the number of LEDs needed in an application. Dow Corning silicone additives, with tailored refractive indexes close to the base resins, are appropriate choices for LED light diffusion because they meet these requirements with virtually no effect on mechanical or FR properties.

Dow Corning provides silicone elastomer additive powders that deliver homogeneous dispersion across the total light spectrum to avoid color effects. These additives are also cost-effective, thanks to their high performance at very low loadings.

Dow Corning's silicone-based additive technology provides a range of diffusion, transmittance and haze levels for LED lighting applications in high-tech consumer electronic goods such as tablets, e-readers, mobile phones and televisions, as well as backlight modules and LED lighting plastic covers. Our additives ensure superior diffusion and high optical performance in transparent materials, including PC, PMMA and PS, used in LED plastic covers and backlight modules.

Dow Corning's silicone elastomer additive portfolio offers you multiple options:

  • High or medium diffusion and medium transmittance
  • Low to no impact on haze and a high degree of light diffusion (DLD) (at 60°C)
  • Uniform dispersion across all wavelengths
  • Reduced impact on mechanical properties
  • Good hot spot suppression
  • Very low loadings of 0.5% to 0.8%
