Dow Corning siloxane powders, used in wire and cable insulation and jacketing in
conjunction with other fire retardant materials, can:
-
Dramatically reduce smoke density during combustion
-
Improve the processibility and impact resistance of the insulation and
jacketing materials
Dow Corning’s 100% active, free-flowing siloxane powders are available in
both non-reactive and organically reactive grades. When the formulator
selects a grade that can interact with the plastic materials in the cable
insulation and jacketing, it forms 1-3 micron particle size droplets in the
formulation.
When used in combination with other fire retardant solids such as Aluminum
Trihydrate, Magnesium Hydroxide, Calcium Carbonate, Ammonium Phosphate,
Halogenated Hydrocarbons and others, siloxane powders coat the surfaces of
these materials and improve not only the flame retardency of the plastic, but
also its processibility and impact resistance.
