Situation: A global electronics connector manufacturer
relied Dow Corning's chemical expertise to help them quickly upgrade Hong Kong High Consistency Rubber (HCR) molding operations to include a custom
Silastic® Fluorosilicone Rubber (FSR) formulation. |
 |
|
Problem: To reduce their costs, a leader in the electronics industry subcontracted the fabrication of connector seals for heavy construction and mining equipment. The
subcontractor's current
molding and mold making technology is designed for HCR. It's critical that the molded parts for this
type of application deliver specific fuel and oil resistance properties. Only FSR material can
fulfill these needs and they must now quickly and economically convert the fabricator's molding
operations from HCR to FSR. |
|
Solution: Dow Corning US and Chinese teams worked in close collaboration with the manufacturer and the fabricator to create an exact solution. They developed a customized
Silastic Fluorosilicone Rubber (FSR) compound that could be fabricated on the current
molding operations. The formulation included an innovative mold release agent which, by minimizing
tearing enabled the fabricator to meet and exceed production targets. In addition, the fabricator
relied on Dow Corning for material training to supervise the initial product trials. |
