Dow Corning® Contractors Concrete Sealant and Dow Corning® Contractors Weatherproofing Sealant Are The Right Choice

Price

Dow Corning now delivers silicone performance at urethane-competitive prices. Dollar for dollar, you can’t get better performance for the price than with Dow Corning® Contractors Concrete Sealant (CCS) and Dow Corning® Contractors Weatherproofing Sealant (CWS). Unlike organic urethane products, silicone sealants:

  • Are virtually unaffected by UV light, ozone, rain, snow or temperature extremes.
  • Stay flexible and maintain adhesion, even while being stretched or compressed.
  • Will not crack, split or tear.

CCS and CWS carry a 5-Year Weatherseal Limited Warranty from Dow Corning, a brand you can trust from a company that stands behind its claims. Many urethane products carry no published warranty. With CCS and CWS, you don’t have to compromise performance for price.

Paintability

The commonly accepted thinking about sealants is that although silicone offers superior performance, urethane is paintable. But what about the long-term aesthetics of painted urethane sealant? If the paint can’t match the sealant’s movement, it will crack, peel and fall off. Aside from aesthetic issues, this exposes the sealant underneath to damaging UV rays. UV exposure isn’t a problem for silicone sealants.

But as this image show, urethane sealants quickly degrade when exposed to UV radiation. These latent defects make callbacks more likely and reflect poorly on the quality of your workmanship ... even if you had no control over which sealant was specified.

After 100 days (2,400 hours) of UV exposure in accelerated weathering and heat stability tests, the urethane sealant deteriorates, while the silicone sealant remains untouched.

Encouraging the use of price-competitive, 100% silicone CCS and CWS instead of urethane can benefit your reputation and your budget! With a virtually unlimited palette of colors available, you don’t have to compromise performance for paintability.

Application Flexibility

There’s a sudden drop in temperature and your crew is now left trying to fill thousands of lineal feet of construction joints with urethane sealant that’s difficult to extrude. If you’ve ever been in this position, you’ll appreciate the all-temperature gunnability of silicone sealants. CCS and CWS also offer primerless adhesion to many common porous and nonporous building substrates. (See product specifications for Section 07 92 00 for Joint Sealants for more information.) CCS and CWS can save you time, labor and money ... not to mention a lot of frustration! With CCS and CWS, you don’t have to compromise application flexibility for price.
