What is an RSS Web Feed and how do I start
using RSS feeds?
-
There is some discussion as to what RSS
stands for, but the majority agrees on “Really Simple Syndication.” Put
plainly, it allows you to identify the content you like and have it delivered
directly to you. It takes the hassle out of staying up-to-date, by showing you
the very latest information that you are interested in. Not all Web sites
currently provide RSS, but it is growing rapidly in popularity and many others,
including the BBC, New York Times and CNN do provide it.
|
In general, the first thing you need is something called a news reader.
There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a browser,
and some of which are downloadable applications. All allow you to display and
subscribe to the RSS feeds you want.
Once you have chosen a news reader, all you have to do is to decide what
content you want. Most sites that offer an RSS feed use a small orange 'RSS' or
'XML' button to advertise that an RSS feed is available.
If you click on the button, you can subscribe to the feed in various ways,
including dragging the URL of the RSS feed into your news reader or by cutting
and pasting the same URL into a new feed in your news reader.
Some browsers, including Firefox, Opera and Safari, have functionality which
automatically picks up RSS feeds for you. For more details on these, please
check their Web sites.

How can I access PDF files?
We are using the file format Adobe® Portable Document Format ( PDF) for
data sheets, regulations and other documents we must provide in an unalterable
format. To work with PDF documents, you need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. We
recommend Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher in order to view, navigate and
print all PDF files.
|
If you don't have Acrobat Reader:
Download Adobe Acrobat. You can download versions for most
operating systems in several languages from here.
What the Adobe Acrobat is not:
It is not a word processing file. You cannot open PDF files in your word
processor to edit it. All you can do is open PDF files to read them on line,
save, or print them.
|
|
Can I find help with Microsoft® Office Document Viewers?
Within our Web site we sometimes provide documents that are not in a standard
Web page format. We do this because it makes them easier to print out on your
computer, or easier to read on-line.
You will sometimes find Microsoft® Excel or other Microsoft® Office documents
available to download. Many software packages can cope with these file formats,
but if yours cannot, you can download free viewer software from Microsoft:
