Safety Data Sheet Information
Dow Corning is implementing important changes that will impact both the
appearance and the content of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and product
The SDS is a document that contains information about potential hazards and how
to work safely with the chemical product. It also contains information on the
use, storage, handling, transportation and emergency procedures related to the
hazards associated with the product.
Product formulation and composition are not changing. The new SDS and
labels continue to observe all requirements of state, national, and
international governmental regulations and provide a comprehensive guide to the
safe handling of Dow Corning products. As always, you should review and
compare new SDS and labels to existing versions, paying particular attention to
any new information and take appropriate action as necessary.
Dow Corning has outsourced its SDS authoring to an external service
provider. As a result of that, you might notice a change in the look and layout
of our SDS and, potentially, labels as well. The content will be in compliance
with regulations in each geography. Safety Data Sheets are expected to be
re-authored over the next 24 months.
Dow Corning has also started its transition to the Globally Harmonized
System (GHS) of classification and labeling of chemicals, targeting completion
by June 1, 2015 for the US and the EU.
You might notice new information on SDS and labels due to GHS requirements.
They might include new pictograms, revised chemical classifications, related
warnings, and precautionary statements due to hazard reporting threshold
You will continue to receive our SDS the same way as before and they remain
available for download at dowcorning.com.
Resources are available to help you get the answers you need today about these
