Dow Corning Foundation Announces Fourth Quarter Grants and 2014 Trustees

The trustees of the Dow Corning Foundation (DCF) approved nearly $400,000 in grants at their December meeting including the following Great Lakes Bay Region of Michigan projects

Saginaw County Sheriff’s Department: $2000 to purchase defibrillators for use in patrol cars

Children’s Zoo at Celebration Square, Saginaw: $19,000 to renovate children’s play area

Morey Public School Academy, Shepherd: $15,000 in matching funds to purchase and implement Montessori Science Curriculum

Trustees also approved a total of $300,000 in funding for the Dow Corning Donor Advised Funds held by the Bay Area Community Foundation, the Midland Area Community Foundation, and the Saginaw Community Foundation .

In other business, the trustees elected four new members to its board: Dow Corning employees Pamela Berry; Brian Carroll; Jennifer Kempf; Cary Levitt, Secretary and Melissa Reimers, Treasurer. Chris Velasquez was re-elected as President and Linda Kennan will remain as Vice President.

The Dow Corning Foundation provides funding in other US communities surrounding our sites including: $10,000 for the Trimble County Public Schools, Trimble County Kentucky; $10,300 to the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro; $25,375 to the Community Foundation of Central Kentucky, and $10,500 to the Community Foundation of Noble County in Indiana.

The DCF’s mission is to improve scientific literacy by increasing access to math, science and technology education at the pre-university level, improve vitality and quality of life in communities where Dow Corning and Hemlock Semiconductor employees work and reside, and to increase the utilization of sustainable, innovative technologies to benefit society.
